Armless Risom Lounge Chair by Jens Risom for Knoll
Jens Risom designed his early seating collection for Knoll with materials that could both be sourced locally and that were not subject to wartime supply restrictions, such as the remnants of nylon webbing used to manufacture parachutes.
With the belief that “design is a creative effort to successfully solve problems,” Risom designed a line that not only addressed existing supply constraints, but also exhibited graceful curves paired with clean geometry, resulting in the restrained elegance characteristic of Scandinavian design. Risom’s original collaboration with Hans Knoll helped establish Knoll as an early American purveyor of modern design.
